What an amazing profession I am a part of each day! Being a first grade teacher is definitely a learning experience. I recently viewed a TED talk about being a “maker.”  Just give 18 first graders the opportunity to be a “maker” and you will be amazed at what they can create. Two students walked around our playground at recess and turned fallen leaves into beautiful necklaces and bracelets.  Watch out David Yurman! Give children a stack of white paper and the sky is the limit.  They create games, toys, books and so much more.  One young man created a cookbook for his family’s holiday dinner.  He had some recipes I want to try, too. Another group began creating Christmas decorations for our room. It was a very exciting place to be.  The whole time children are giving ideas and singing Christmas carols that will be sung for Christmas Pageant later this month. So much choice brought so much joy. Come visit and share the excitement.

  1. Thank you for sharing these wonderful insights about students and learning. So much joy comes from watching students make something or create from their imagination.
