“Concentrate on your strengths instead of your weaknesses, on your powers instead of your problems.” -Paul J. Meyer

One would think that after spending three decades in various educational positions and settings, the daily reading of this quote wouldn’t be necessary. Quite the contrary, with each new position I held there were new challenges, new things to learn, new relationships to be nurtured, which made the reading of this statement all the more necessary.  How easy it is to jump to a weakness in ourselves rather than strength or to focus on a problem instead of the power we have to develop solutions.

Being an educator these are the qualities I want to nurture in my students. So, with this as my goal for them, I need to master these qualities in myself.

About the author:  Valerie Migliore (@valmig3) is a curriculum director, has taught across grade levels PreK-12.  Feels very fortunate to have such rich and varied experiences in education!
